Pure Drive is the name Nissan uses for their vehicles that feature internal combustion engines with reduced CO2 emissions. These vehicles offer advanced, fuel efficient, and environmentally-friendly technologies including Idling Stop (Nissan's start/stop system) to reduce needless fuel usage, and energy loss reduction within the power train. Some vehicles also use hybrid systems to recover otherwise wasted energy and increase performance, while others use superchargers on small engines to achieve a C02 reduction equivalent to that of a hybrid.
Other techniques used to reduce CO2 include an ECO mode and ECO pedal to support the driver in the quest to be more economical and the Xtronic continuously variable transmission (or CVT) which increases fuel economy while maintaining driving pleasure. While Nissan believes that all-electric cars may be the future they realize that combustion engine powered vehicles will still be on the road for some time. Vehicles with the Pure Drive badge should prove that low emissions vehicles don't have to be boring.
