More Details Gleaned after 'Thanks Day' in Japan
2016 mazda mx-5 miata
In conjunction with its globally live-streamed, rock-star-style debut, the brand-new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata also was showcased at special "Thanks Day"/25th anniversary celebration in Japan, and it turns out that that event included the release of a few more details than were provided via the brand's U.S. media outlet.
For example, the company revealed exact, albeit preliminary, physical specifications for the Japanese-market 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, which will be 154.13 inches in length (3.2 inches shorter than the current Miata), 68.5 inches in width (.8 inches wider) and 48.6 inches in height (.4 inches shorter). And although the wheelbase of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata does shrink by about half an inch, it's still longer proportionally than in the current car for improved handling.
At the same time, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will shed about 220 lbs. versus the 2015 model for a curb weight of approximately 2,260 in its soft-top configuration. And speaking of tops, Mazda made it clear that the new Miata will embrace its role as the world's favorite roadster with even more drop-top advantages than before. A case in point: Drivers will still be able to operate the soft top of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata without leaving their seats, but now the brand has paid more attention to controlling wind noise and creating a design that "melts away the boundaries between the inside and the outside of the car." Even better, the company is promising new headrest-mounted audio speakers, too.
Other highlights of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata are expected to include:
The party line from the company: "Mazda built the MX-5 with the hopes that it would become a presence that transcended its existence as mere car," carrying on a "rich tradition while more purely than every embodying the essence of what appeals to the senses and sensations through which people enjoy cars."
The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is scheduled to go on sale in this country in 2015.
