As the zoom-zoom brand works to establish its SKYACTIV vehicles in the U.S. marketplace, one of those key entries—the 2016 Mazda CX-5—will be updated with the company's latest innovations for the next model year.
For example, Mazda's usual attention to driving dynamics will bring hardware enhancements across the line, add a multi-mode drive selector to automatically transmissioned models, and upgrade the available all-wheel-drive system for the 2015 Mazda CX-5 to provide more refined performance as well. As a result, the AWD models of the 2015 Mazda CX-5, outfitted with a six-speed automatic transmission and 184-hp four-cylinder engine, are expected to see some bump in "real world" fuel economy; however, just to be clear, the brand isn't expecting the EPA grades of the AWD CX-5 to move from the current 24 mpg city/30 mpg highway/26 mpg combined. On the other hand, the front-wheel-drive version, when configured with the same powertrain, does see EPA increases of 1 mpg/2 mpg/1 mpg, with an expected line of 26/33/29.
Also, the entry point for the 2015 Mazda CX-5 roster, with a 155-hp powerplant and six-speed manual transmission, continues to lead the way with marks of 26 mpg city/35 mpg highway/29 mpg combined.
Additional enhancements for the 2016 Mazda CX-5 include:
With all that and more, the 2016 Mazda CX-5 is expected in dealerships in 2015 at a price that's yet to be determined.
