The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's "Top Safety Pick+" designation is designed to identify vehicles that have performed very well in both the crash and crash avoidance tests. Since its creation, both the Subaru Legacy and Outback have been among some of the models who have repeatedly earned this rating. This year, the new 2015 Legacy and Outback models are furthering their winning streak with a third consecutive win.
Both the Legacy and Outback improved on their predecessors in the Institute's stringent small overlap front crash test, which simulates a vehicle crashing into a tree or utility pole. Both models earned a "good" rating in this tough test, up from the "marginal" rating for the previous generation. In addition, the two models earned "superior" ratings in the crash prevention test. Equipped with the optional EyeSight system, both models came to a full stop at 12 and 25 MPH.
"The Institute's findings reinforce our dedication to building safe vehicles. We are proud of the 2014 TOP SAFETY PICK endorsement for every Subaru vehicle in our line-up," said Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer of Subaru of America, Inc.
