When the Scion FR-S hit the streets as a 2012 model year sports car, fans rejoiced. The right-sized sports car heralded the return of affordable rear wheel drive accessability. At first, the Scion FR-S was a no-nonsense no-frills sport coupe. But after a few special edition models with upgraded creature comforts like leather seating and bright yellow TRD body kits arrived, the FR-S gained broader appeal. Because of this, the 2015 FR-S is now being offered with everyday amenities like a center armrest, available touch screen navigation and a new dash panel that adds a carbon fiber look to the already purposeful interior. Lastly, the rear suspension was revised to give the FR-S a dynamic, planted to the pavement, Global Time Attack feel and ensured a little less of the sideways antics that we have come to expect from Formula Drift.
From the outside, 2015 Scion FR-S models can be distinguished from earlier years by a color matched shark fin antennae mounted atop the roof, and a larger set of exhaust pipes poking out from below the rear bumper. Starting out at $24,900 for a six-speed manualm, the automatic equipped test car we drove starts at $26,000.
2015 Scion FR-S competitors include the Subaru BRZ, Ford Fiesta ST and Mazda MX-5 Miata.
