2015 Corvette Z06 C7 Convertible Interior Overview at the 2014 New York Auto Show

When General Motors decided that the latest Corvette models had the potential to go after cars like the Porsche 911, there was an obvious drawback. Chevrolets tend to have interiors that focus more on value than on luxury. But if the C7 Corvette was truly going to be able to compete on a global scale, the cabin’s shortcomings were going to have to change. Ryan Vaughan, the Lead Interior Designer for Performance Cars at GM, had the honor of leading the interior design process for the current crop of Corvettes, including the C7 Corvette Stingray. Autobytel got an up close and personal walkthrough of the design process for the latest ‘Vette, the 2015 Z06. The project actually kicked off more than four years ago, and every design decision that’s been made since then has been with the goal of optimizing the driver’s experience behind the wheel. The team focused on ensuring the cabin surfaces were soft and luxurious, using authentic materials such as real leather, aluminum, and carbon fiber. The cockpit also reinforces the Corvette Z06’s emphasis on performance, with two sport seat options. Despite the fresh approach, heritage Corvette styling cues also play a role in finishing the cabin.
