2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon Test Drive and Video Review

The 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are the first new midsize truck models to come out in a few years, and not only do they have to distinguish themselves from the rest of the midsize and full size truck herd, they have to carve out distinct identities from each other. Benjamin Hunting, Autobytel’s Road Test Editor, recently headed out to California to test both of these pickups. The Colorado and Canyon names are familiar, but the 2015 models are all new. They’re based on GM’s global pickup truck platform, which was sold around the world, but not in the United States, where buying a full size truck generally makes more economic sense than scaling down. GM is hoping that there are urban dwellers or people with active lifestyles who see the sense in buying a smaller truck, and that they’ll be attracted to the Canyon and Colorado. Engine options are a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 200 horsepower, and a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 305 horsepower. Both engines come paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, and a manual option is available only in the base trim Colorado. Cab options add flexibility to the configurations. Towing capacity is comparable to a full size truck, helping the new 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon make a more compelling argument in favor of scaling down.
