Still a relative bargain when compared to its rivals, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will debut with an MSRP of $78,995 in a coupe configuration and $83,995 as a convertible, with both prices including destination charges. For comparison's sake, the Corvette's arch rival—the Porsche 911—starts at $84,300 in its least-expensive setup, and that model makes a mere 350 hp and 287 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will reach dealerships with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that can release 650 horses and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.
And the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is quicker and more efficient than that 911, too.
Said Harlan Charles, Corvette product and marketing manager: “The 2015 Corvette Z06’s performance and technical capabilities place it in the elite fraternity of supercars. Very few cars in the world deliver 650 horsepower, true aerodynamic downforce, carbon fiber and performance technologies such as Magnetic Ride Control, Performance Traction Management and an electronic limited slip differential—and none gives the driver a transmission choice or the choice of a coupe with a removable roof panel or a full-power-top convertible.”
Now, some folks will be wondering where the Dodge Hellcats fit into this picture, since both the Challenger and Charger editions offer up 57 more horsepower than the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, and the Challenger, for one, is priced at $59,995. But what drivers should keep in mind is that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 offers the same amount of torque as the Hellcat duo, and it's also something more than 800 lbs. lighter that the Dodges. As a result, the "regular" 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, relying on a V8 that makes 460 hp and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, can post a 3.7 second 0-60 time that is right in line with real-world numbers from the Challenger Hellcat.
Performance times for the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 have yet to be released. The Bowtie brand did, however, release further MSRP details about the car, indicating that a Carbon Fiber Ground Effect package, based on the setup used by Corvette Racing, will be offered for $2,995. Additionally, a Z07 high-performance package, with the carbon-fiber kit, adjustable aero components, Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires and Brembo carbon-ceramic brake rotors, will be on the menu for $7,995.
