2014 SRT Viper Strykes Again with New Paint Color and GT Package

America’s other homegrown supercar—the 2014 SRT Viper—is keeping a low profile at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but it did premiere what the brand calls a “high impact” exterior finish, along with a new upgrade package for the GT model.

The latest addition to the car’s exterior palette is called Stryker Green, and its remarkable appearance is no accident. As explained by Ralph Gilles, president and CEO of the SRT Brand and Motorsports for Chrysler Group: “The application of the new Stryker Green exterior paint is a very detailed and intricate process, taking approximately eight hours to complete. The process first starts with a base color coat followed by a green-tinted mid-coat and topped off with a clear finish. Each coat application adds depth and accentuates the curvature of the Viper’s exterior design.”

Drawing its inspiration from the Viper’s “Snakeskin Green” color that debuted in 2008, Stryker Green this year will be offered for both the up-level 2014 SRT Viper GTS and the standard GT; in the latter case, however, it’s part of an option bundle that also includes key enhancements formerly available only in the range-topping trim level: five-mode electronic stability control, a two-mode Bilstein DampTronic Select suspension, and Nappa leather seats.

The option package also can be ordered for the Viper GT with the Venom Black exterior, beginning in February at a price that’s yet to be determined.
