Next-gen Versa Hatch Joins Subcompact Segment
Much like its sedan sibling, the 2014 Nissan Versa Note offers a notably low starting price, as the second-generation Versa hatchback is reaching dealerships now with an MSRP of $13,990. The Nissan Versa Sedan, as folks may recall, is the least expensive new car in the country (starting at $11,990), while the Note will surely strike a chord with value shoppers by ranking as follows on the list of mainstream subcompact hatchbacks:
And keep in mind, that starting price for the 2014 Nissan Versa Note reflects a $680 price decrease from the MSRP of the previous Versa hatch. It’s part of Nissan’s new low-profile low-pricing approach to sales, which it should be noted, paid off with record deliveries in May. It’s true that the Versa duo itself lost a little bit of ground last month, but the pair has led the subcompact segment for 38 of the past 44 months (as pointed out by Nissan).

The entry point for the 2014 Nissan Versa Note is the S model. That’s the one with the $13,990 MSRP, and that gets you the basics: Air conditioning, a four-speaker AM/FM/CD/AUX audio setup, and power outside mirrors being among the highlights. The 2014 Nissan Versa Note S also is distinguished by the fact it relies on a five-speed manual transmission, paired to the advanced 4-cylinder engine offered throughout the lineup and delivering 109 hp and 107 lb.-ft. of torque.
Featuring an MSRP of $15,240, the 2014 Nissan Versa Note S Plus welcomes an Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), as well as EPA marks of 31 mpg city/40 mpg highway/35 mpg combined. Those grades represent increases of 4 mpg/4 mpg/5 mpg over the DIY transmission and also reflect a number of aero upgrades to the S Plus model.
At the top of the 2014 Nissan Versa Note roster is the SV trim, providing access to features like:
"The all-new Versa Note is aggressively designed, equipped, packaged and priced, serving notice to the competition that Nissan intends to remain the key player in the Entry segment for a long time to come," said Fred Diaz, divisional vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing. "With class-leading fuel economy, cutting-edge technologies, an energetic exterior design, roomy and versatile interior, and available activity-enhancing features such as Pandora radio compatibility and hands-free text-messaging assistant, Versa Note is an ideal fit for today's buyers’ needs."
