2014 Nissan Pathfinder Test Drive and Video Review

The Pathfinder was one of the early trailblazers in Nissan’s lineup of sport utility vehicles, with off-road capability to back up its rugged styling. In 2013, though, Nissan took a hard look at the Pathfinder and decided to make some updates to better reflect the times. The new and updated Nissan Pathfinder is now a crossover that seats seven occupants. It’s more like a minivan than an SUV, despite the styling, and it’s helped Nissan double sales of Pathfinder models. But how does it stack up against other crossovers on the market (or to fond memories of Pathfinders past)? Autobytel’s Road Test Editor, Chris Wardlaw, took a 2014 Pathfinder for a test drive to see what’s behind Nissan’s changes.

The new Nissan Pathfinder features a 3.5-liter V6 engine with an output of 260 horsepower. It’s paired to a well calibrated continuously variable transmission that provides smooth shifts and modest fuel economy. The Pathfinder is rated for 19 MPG city and 25 MPG on the highway. Optional packages for the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder include a technology package and a towing package. The technology package provides additional safety features and upgraded creature comforts, and the towing package is a good choice for buyers who need their new Pathfinder to be as functional as an old one.
