2014 Nissan Murano: The Price Remains the Same

The past year or so has seen the Nissan brand take a noticeably more aggressive approach to value pricing, and that strategy will continue with the 2014 Nissan Murano. MSRPs for the relatively upscale five-seat crossover will begin at $28,440, a starting point that is unchanged from the 2013 model year. True, the 2014 Nissan Murano is itself unchanged from the 2013 model year—except for the addition of a new graphite interior design scheme—but it does come standard with premium cues like:

• Dual-zone automatic temperature control
• 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels
• LED taillights
• Electroluminescent gauges
• Nissan’s Intelligent Key system with push-button start
• Power locks/doors/exterior mirrors
• Ambient interior lighting and a “welcome lighting” system
• A dual-level center console
• Premium audio, courtesy of a six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3/AUX sound system

Motivation comes solely from a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 260 hp and 240 lb.-ft. of torque, with one of Nissan’s signature CVTs handling the transmission duties. Together, the powertrain delivers EPA marks of 18 mpg city/24 mpg highway/20 mpg combined. When the 2014 Nissan Murano is configured with its available all-wheel-drive system, the price of admission rises to $30,230, although the EPA line still reaches 18/23/20.

Now, for folks used to shopping the compact mainstream crossovers, those MSRPs still may seem a bit steep, but it’s important to remember that the 2014 Nissan Rogue is a bit bigger than rivals like the Ford Escape or Toyota RAV4, and that pair, along with all other comparable mainstreamers, starts with four-cylinder engines—and in many cases the Murano’s rivals don’t offer premium engine choices at all.
