2014 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X Test Drive and Video Review

The compact pickup truck market continues to see a decline, with only three options on the market, all of which are from Japanese manufacturers. One of them is the 2014 Nissan Frontier, which was recently tested by Autobytel’s Road Test Editor, Chris Wardlaw. As Chris explains, full size trucks get fuel economy that’s the same or better than the small trucks, so it doesn’t often make much sense to buy a lower capacity truck that’s less efficient. The Frontier PRO-4X provides true off-road capability thanks to upgrades such as a Bilstein off-road suspension system, skid plates, a locking rear differential, a hill descent control feature, and 16-inch wheels with off-road-ready tires. The Frontier can also be upgraded with a luxury package that adds plenty of technology amenities to the cabin as well as features such as a roof rack. The 2014 Frontier offers two engine options, a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 152 horsepower, or, as Autobytel tested, a 4-liter V-6 with 261 horsepower that provides a powerful and responsive driving experience. The Frontier PRO-4X with the V-6 is rated for fuel economy of 15 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. The 2014 Nissan Frontier starts at $17,990, but Autobytel’s fully loaded test car had a sticker of $31,040.
