Lexus is somewhat alone in the mid-size luxury sedan marketplace in that it offers a choice of two 3.5-liter V6 sedans. For sporting oriented drivers, the marque presents the rear-drive IS 350 models, while for the driver more concerned about backseat legroom, quiet operation, and the maximum in comfort can opt for the front-drive ES 350. Based on Toyota’s Avalon near luxury flagship sedan, this Lexus answers the question; “What would the result be if Toyota went full boat with the Avalon?’ The niceties start with a broad range of luxury features including; Bluetooth, auto-dimming mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and start, as well as a plush interior treatment. Options include Siri Eyes Free operation for handsfree interaction with Apple’s iPhone, the Lexus Remote Touch infotainment interface, a power closing trunk, smart cruise control, lane departure warning, and smart windshield wipers. Real wood trim is also offered, along with heated and ventilated leather seats. Power comes from an exceptionally smooth-running 3.5-liter V6 capable of producing 268 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, as is a six-speed automatic transmission. NHTSA awarded the ES 350 a five star crash test rating, while the IIHS gives the ES 350 is highest rating (“good”) as well.
