If you’re attracted to the FIAT 500, but the little Italian city car is just too dainty for your needs, there’s finally another option for buyers who need a little more flexibility. The 2014 FIAT 500L is is a slightly larger version of the hot hatch, offering all the same perks with a bit more interior room. Subcompact cars are great for attracting new buyers, but eventually, many of those customers want to trade up to something a little larger, so FIAT sent the 500L to the United States to help grow the brand’s audience. Chris Wardlaw, Road Test Editor for Autobytel, offers a thorough overview of the latest FIAT. It comes powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that will be familiar to drivers of the Abarth edition of the FIAT 500. This powerplant produces 160 horsepower. The EPA says the car’s good for 25 miles per gallon in the city, 33 on the highway. Tight, responsive steering and a well designed suspension make the most of the FIAT 500L’s power output, and an intuitive and simple infotainment system make the car’s electronic features easy to use. The 2014 FIAT 500L might have polarizing exterior styling, but it’s the best way to get the FIAT driving experience with additional versatility.
