Anytime the letters BMW are followed by the letter M, you’re typically in for something special. A new member of this club has arrived in the form of the 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
That means you can expect four doors, extra bits of style, and a delightfully powerfully forced-induction V8 engine under the hood.
Borrowing inspiration from the full field of coupe-like sedans, the M6 Gran Coupe gets its style game on to great effect. This four-door is a looker, and it’s an aggressive one at that.
BMW has taken the stand-out appearance of the non-M Gran Coupe, and added extra touches to let onlookers know this Bavarian beast has plenty of power on tap. The wheels are massive, the front fascia is wildly flared, and the overall stance puts fear in the hearts of lesser machines.
BMW isn’t playing games with regards to the engine mounted under the hood of the M6 Gran Coupe. In fact, this vehicle plays host to the most powerful engine ever fitted to a production M machine. The mill is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that produces 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. It can propel the M6 Gran Coupe from 0-60 miles per hour in just 4.1 seconds, and then onward to the electronically-limited top speed of 155 miles per hour.
The twin-turbo twin-scoll unit is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and power is sent out to the rear wheels.
The biggest features of the 2014 M6 Gran Coupe revolve around the engine, transmission, and everything else under the skin designed to make this four door fly. The main bit of tech is obviously that wonderful twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine, and all of its power. Equally impressive though is the quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, adjustable Drivelogic modes, the Active M differential, massive 16.1-inch front and 15.6-inch rear brakes, and the always well-created chassis and suspension setup.
It’s a stylish four-door from BMW that wears an M badge and houses a ultra-potent V8 engine. What do we think? It sounds awesome, and we can’t wait to get behind the wheel of one at some point in the year!
