When the A7 came out, the world gave a gasp then reveled in how the darn thing looks. Soon, word of the Audi S7 arrived, and our hearts begin to flutter once again. Now though, Detroit plays host to the announcement of the latest saga in the 7 story, and it’s the angry chapter.
We’re talking about the all-new 2014 Audi RS7, and it brings serious performance to match the seriously good looks.
Take your standard Audi A7, punch it in the face to make it angry, and then stand back. The flares will get wider, the nostrils bigger, and the entire exterior will come to life as it transforms into the far more aggressive RS7.
A power extending rear spoiler sits out back, while below it sits a shapely rump which terminates with a rear diffuser and two large exhaust outlets.
The heart and soul of the 2014 Audi RS7 is, of course, its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. This mighty motor puts out 560 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, and it sends it out to all four wheels by way of a specifically tuned-for-performance eight-speed tiptronic transmission.
With that much go power on tap, the RS7 is rated to run from 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds. The top speed is around 155 miles per hour, but there are two available performance trims that push that figure even higher. The Dynamic Package raises top speed to 174 miles per hour, while the Dynamic Package Plus goes even further to 189 miles per hour.
Audi has employed a batch of efficient technology applications that all help the power performer also be a miser at the fuel pump. The COD, or Cylinder on Demand, system deactivates cylinders two, three, five, and eight when not needed. When in this mode, the car is essentially a four-cylinder, and fuel economy rises significantly.
The driver and passengers won’t feel it, as it’s rather seamless and happens quickly.
We’re huge fans of the Audi A7, and we love the Audi S7. Now, we have a new shapely sedan king to bow down to, because the 2014 Audi RS7 has won over our hearts, eyes, and minds.
Re-read those performance figures… 0-60 miles per hour in under four seconds!
