One automaker who has held the torch for diesel vehicles in the U.S. for many years is Volkswagen. The company has been selling diesel vehicles in the U.S. since the eighties and for a time, was the only automaker to sell a diesel-powered vehicle. Their perseverance has paid off as diesel vehicles have been experiencing a resurgence in the marketplace. The Jetta TDI doesn't scream out that it's a diesel. As a matter of fact, the TDI looks like your standard Jetta. The only way you can tell on the outside is a TDI badge on the trunk lid. Inside is the same story; looks like your standard Jetta until you look at the RPM gauge and notice it goes up to 6,000.

Power comes from 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine with 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. You can equip the diesel with either a six-speed manual or Volkswagen's DSG dual-clutch gearbox.
