Though Lexus might not be the first car manufacture that comes to mind when you’re thinking about capable off-road vehicles, the Lexus lineup of sport utility vehicles is definitely a strong contender in the category. After all, Lexus is owned by Toyota, and Toyota definitely knows how to make strong vehicles for all types of terrain. And though most Lexus SUVs on the road appear to be relegated to grocery store and carpool duty, the Lexus GX 460 seems eager to prove it’s capable of more. The 2013 Lexus GX 460 is a lot more rugged than many people think, although from the 2014 model year on, it’s going to look more polished and elegant than the outgoing boxy design. This Autobytel test drive, hosted by Road Test Editor Jeff Glucker, puts the 2013 Lexus GX 460 through its paces to truly get a sense of its off-road capabilities. The 2013 model year Lexus GX 460 is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 engine that yields 301 horsepower, and it’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Equipped with a full-time four-wheel-drive system, this Lexus luxury SUV is ready for almost any situation, even though it’s most likely to be a highway cruiser or a suburban runaround, especially since it features third-row seating for a capacity of seven passengers.
