2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec Video Review

When you think of sports cars, what comes to your mind? Chevrolet Camaro, Nissan 370Z, Ford Mustang, Scion FR-S, and Subaru BRZ are the most likely suspects. One that doesn’t is the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. When introduced back in 2008, the Genesis Coupe caused a bit of disruption in the sports car market due to its level of performance for the price. For the 2013 model year, Hyundai has upped the performance in the Genesis Coupe while keeping it one of the best sport car values on the road today. Styling wise, Hyundai has given the 2013 Genesis Coupe a more aggressive look with a new front fascia and small styling tweaks throughout the body.

Under the hood, you have the choice between a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder producing 274 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, or a 3.8L GDI DOHC V6 engine with Dual-CVVT making 348 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. You have the choice of either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic for both engines. EPA rates the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder at 21 City/30 Highway/24 Combined with the six-speed manual and 20 City/31 Highway/24 Combined when equipped with eight-speed automatic. As for the 3.8L V6, the EPA rates it at 18 City/28 Highway/22 Combined with the six-speed and 18 City/27 Highway/21 Combined with the eight-speed automatic. Hyundai offers a wide variety of models of the Genesis coupe, but the one enthusiasts should check out is the R-Spec model which adds a variety of goodies.

For starters, the Genesis Coupe R-Spec gets a Track-tuned suspension and strut brace with low-velocity control dampers to improve handling and keep the coupe flat when cornering. There is also a Torsen limited-slip differential which helps distribute power and not have it end up in a cloud of smoke. To help bring you to a stop, there is a Brembo braking system. How much for the R-Spec model? $26,500 will get you into a R-Spec turbo-four model while the 3.8L version costs $28,750.
