2013 Ford Fusion Grabs Green Car of the Year Award

Besting finalists that included the Dodge Dart Aero, Mazda CX-5 SKYACTIV, and Toyota Prius c—as well as its corporate sibling, the Ford C-MAX—the 2013 Ford Fusion was named Green Car Journal’s “2013 Green Car of the Year” at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

"The 2013 Ford Fusion approaches the market with a 'game-on' attitude," said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal. "There's no overstating the importance of what Ford has done. Many have long envisioned new car showrooms where a desired model could be purchased with one of many distinctly different and efficient powertrains, selected to satisfy a buyer's particular needs and desires."

And of course, that desire can now be satisfied with Fusion models powered by:

• A naturally aspirated 2.5-liter I4 that delivers EPA ratings of 22 mpg city/34 mpg highway/26 mpg combined
• Two EcoBoost powerplants, including a 1.6-liter I4 that can post an EPA line of 25/37/29; the other EcoBoost engine, the 2.0-liter unit found in the hi-po Fusion, can achieve 22/33/26 while making a potent 240 hp and 270 lb.-ft. of torque
• An advanced, next-gen hybrid system that enables the 2013 Ford Fusion to achieve 47 mpg in all three EPA testing cycles
• Plug-in hybrid technology, allowing the Fusion Energi to travel more than 20 miles on electricity alone and then continues for hundreds of more miles by switching to its traditional hybrid powertrain
