The Nissan Altima Coupe is a two-door version of the popular entry level mid size sedan, styled along the lines of its luxurious cousin, the Infiniti G, with it’s sleek profile, broad shoulders and chromed dual exhaust tips. The Japanese automaker offers the Coupe in two distinct trims, the 2.5 S and 3.5 SR. The first is motivated by a 2.5 Liter four cylinder cranking out 175 HP and 180 lb-ft of torque, returning as much as 31 MPG on the highway and 23 MPG around town on a set of 17 inch split five spoke wheels. The larger 3.5 Liter V6 powered version adds an extra inch to the diameter of the wheels, and has a maximum output of 270 HP and 258 lb-ft of thrust and gets as much as 27 MPG at cruising speeds and 18 MPG while in the city. Gears are either shifted with an old fashioned 6 speed close ratio manual, or Nissan’s new Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission that gets a couple more MPGs.
The interior of the Altima Coupe is spacious yet sporty, with optional leather wrapped goodies and a trio of air conditioning vents atop the center stack whose placement is quite reminiscent of the old Z car’s gauges. However the Altima Coupe comes with six standard airbags: two of Nissan’s Advanced dual-stage supplemental bags in the dash, two in the front seats to protect the driver and passenger from side impacts and a pair of roof mounted side curtains that protect those in the back seat as well. MSRP for the Coupe starts at $23,600 for a 2.5 S and goes all the way up to $28,430 for the hot rod 3.5 SR.
A list of similar cars to the Altima Coupe includes the 2012 Honda Accord and for used, it is the Toyota Camry Solara.
