The Lexus HS 250h is a compact four door five passenger Super Ultra Low Emission hybrid vehicle powered by a 2.4 Liter VVT-i four cylinder combined with an electric motor to produce a total of 187 HP being channeled through an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission that is good for an estimated 35 MPG around town and 34 MPG on the highway. The Japanese luxury automaker offers the HS in both standard and Premium trims.
The base HS 250h starts at $37,030 and comes with all the amenities that Lexus has become known for highlighted by a dark gloss interior and a set of 17 inch split five spoke rims. However it is the $39,800 HS 250h Premium that takes things up a notch with items like a power tilt and telescoping steering column that automatically retracts making it easier to get in and out of the hybrid as well as the Lexus Memory System that controls everything from the seat position to side mirrors and even the climate control.
The interior of the Premium HS is upgraded with brown walnut trim while the seats are covered in semi-aniline perforated leather. Meanwhile a Lexus 10-speaker Premium Sound System complete with in-dash six-disc CD changer handles audio duties and 18 inch split seven spoke shoes finish off the hybrid’s outward appearance. Optional equipment for the Premium includes the safety focused Technology Package, for $3,900 that adds a Pre-Collision system with Driver Attention Monitor, Intuitive Park Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, a heads up display with Touch Tracer as well as Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning to keep hypermilers in line.
Comparable cars include the Toyota Prius, the BMW 335d and the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
