The Hyundai Veloster is a three door four passenger hatchback powered by a 1.6 Liter gasoline direct injected four cylinder that produces 138 HP and 123 lb-ft of torque that is good for an estimated 29 MPG in the city and as much as 40 MPG on the highway starting at $17,300 and $18,550 when equipped with the gas saving six speed EcoShift Dual Clutch automatic gearbox with paddle shifters in place of the slightly more frugal six speed manual.
The Veloster is available with two major packages; the first being Style Package which upgrades the Hyundai’s rolling stock to 18 inches and adds an oversized panoramic sunroof to open up the interior, chrome grill surround with piano black touches as well as reflective dark accents on the interior to contrast with the aluminum racing pedals, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob as well as seat bolsters, a premium 8 speaker sound system being powered by an external amplifier and subwoofer. The next is the Tech Package, which first requires the Style Package, and adds body colored inserts to the wheels, backup warning sensors, proximity key with push button starter, and a 115V outlet to power gaming devices that can be plugged into the 7 inch high resolution display that otherwise shows the navigation and rear view camera. Priced at $2,000 each.
Aside from the add ons, the Veloster comes equipped with stylish details like a dual tipped chrome center exit exhaust, Blue Link telematics and Bluetooth hands free connectivity that handles everything from text messaging to sending emergency singals all without taking your hands off the steering wheel. As well as a USB jack with iPod interface and power accessories for when you do. But most important the Veloster comes with six standard airbags and brake assist for those times you need to stop short and those times you don’t, not to mention Hyundai’s 100,000 mile warranty.
The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is both the Autobytel Compact Car and Car of the Year.
A list of cars similar to the Veloster include the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle, 2012 Scion tC and 2012 Honda CR-Z.
