The Acura RDX has been recently redesigned, giving the entry-level compact luxury crossover a fresh look and access to a new platform that is lighter than that of the previous model. The Acura RDX still offers two rows of seating for up to five passengers and it also comes with just over 75 cubic feet of total cargo space with the second set of accommodations folded forward. Dual-stage front airbags, side impact airbags and side curtain airbags help to protect passengers in the event of a collision, while vehicle stability assist works to prevent an accident from occurring in the first place.
The Acura RDX's drivetrain consists of a 3.7-liter V-6 that can be mated to either a front-wheel or all-wheel drive layout. The six-cylinder power plant grinds out 273 horses and 251 lb-ft of torque, and it is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy for the RDX checks in at 20-mpg in city driving and 28-mpg on the highway.
Like most Acura vehicles, 2012 Acura RDX is offered exclusively in a base trim that can then be added to in the form of options packages. The entry-level RDX (MSRP $34,320) comes with an MP3-capable CD player, USB support, satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, dual automatic climate control, a rearview camera that links to a five-inch LCD screen, power windows and door locks with keyless entry and keyless start, a moonroof and 18-inch wheels. The Technology package installs a navigation system, surround sound audio, a climate control system that tracks the position of the sun via GPS in order to keep passengers comfortable, voice control over vehicle systems, HID headlights and a power tailgate.
Similar luxury crossovers to the Acura RDX are the Volvo XC60, the Mercedes-Benz GLK and the Audi Q5.
