The Ford F-350 sits in the middle of the Super Duty lineup between the smaller F-250 and larger F-450. While the F-150, which is not a Super Duty at all, is the truck most people purchase — since it has the capability and versatility to handle a wide variety of needs — the F-350 is a bit more serious about the capability part of the equation.

This is a truck for those who plan on doing real work on a regular basis. Whether that means hauling a heavy payload in the bed or hooking up a trailer, this truck has the capability to handle tough jobs. Here are 10 things to know about the 2020 Ford Super Duty F-350.

1. There’s a choice of six trim levels.

The 2020 Ford Super Duty F-350 comes in a range of six trim levels. That allows for the flexibility to choose a model that fits your needs and your budget, with interiors from modest and utilitarian to rugged to luxurious. The base XL starts at $35,220 while the XLT adds amenities including navigation and standard Sync 3 at $40,010. The Lariat adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather seating surfaces for $48,130.

The King Ranch jumps in price to $60,250 with a unique leather interior that adds a dose of luxury to the F-350, while the Platinum comes in at $65,905 with its own special interior design. Sitting at the top of the lineup is the Limited, priced from $84,775.

2. You choose from three available engines.

There’s a choice of three available engines for the Super Duty F-350 lineup, all of which are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is a 6.2-liter V8 with 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Next up is an all-new 7.3-liter V8 with a best-in-class 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, giving you two powerful gas-powered options.

There’s also a 6.7-liter turbocharged V8 diesel engine, which offers the highest performance numbers of the lot. It boasts an impressive 475 horsepower with 1,050 lb-ft of torque, which makes it the go-to choice for those who regularly tow heavy loads of cargo.

3. There are three available cab styles.

Choose from three available cab styles depending on your passenger needs. The smallest option is the regular cab, which has only front seating with room for up to three passengers if you choose a bench seat. Next is the SuperCab, with seating for up to six passengers. Although it offers a second row of seating, it’s a smaller space than what’s offered in the crew cab. This makes it better suited only for occasional use or shorter trips.

The crew cab also offers seating for up to six passengers with a full-size backseat and rear doors. This makes it optimal for those who put a priority on passenger comfort and will frequently be carrying a full load of people.

4. There’s a choice of two bed lengths.

Adding to the versatility of the 2020 Ford Super Duty F-350 is a choice of two bed lengths. If your focus is on payload, then the longer bed length is a better choice. If you don’t need the longer bed, then the shorter bed is an option that makes navigating narrow parking lots and small spaces easier.

The short bed measures 6.75 feet long while the long bed measures 8 feet long. That makes even the shorter of the two options large enough to easily accommodate a wider range of cargo without needing to move to the longer bed. The 8-foot bed is available with all three cab styles, while the shorter bed is only available on the SuperCab and crew cab.

5. There are rear wheel options, too.

The Ford Super Duty F-350 is a truck for work, which means it will likely be towing heavy loads and towing them often. To make that easier, the F-350 is offered in both single rear wheel and dual rear wheel configurations. The benefit to dual rear wheels is a wider stance that helps increase stability while towing a heavy load. It also lessens the load on each individual tire to reduce the chances of overloading.

Dual rear wheels are available for all three cab configurations. They are, however, limited to only the longer 8-foot bed. Those who want the shorter bed don’t have the option for dual rear wheels at all.

6. There's plenty of towing and payload capability.

Heavy-duty trucks are all about getting the job done, and the Ford Super Duty F-350 is no exception. It can tow up to 32,500 pounds when properly equipped, making it an ideal choice for getting through the workday. In addition to that impressive towing number, it can also manage a payload of up to 7,850 pounds.

To make towing heavy loads easier, models with dual rear wheels have a unique high-airflow grille for optimal powertrain cooling. The Ford F-350 has the capability you need with features to make doing the job easy.

7. New Pro Trailer Backup Assist makes towing a trailer easier than ever.

Towing a trailer can be tricky, but the available Pro Trailer Backup Assist system makes it easier than ever. Instead of trying to figure out which way to turn the wheel, simply turn a knob in the direction you want the trailer to go. There’s also an expanded view on the center dash screen thanks to cameras located in the side mirrors along with guidelines that show where the trailer will go as your turn the knob.

The system is built to accommodate a variety of trailer styles, so it works with conventional, fifth-wheel, and gooseneck trailers. This hands-off steering system makes backing up a trailer not just easier and less stressful, but also safer and less prone to mishaps.

9. It offers the first Super Duty Tremor Off-Road Package

For the first time, there’s a Super Duty Tremor Off-Road Package. This offers a balance between towing and payload capability along with off-road capability for those who want to have some fun in their truck when the weekend arrives. This package includes a front and rear lift, progressive-rate springs, custom 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers, and 35-inch Goodyear maximum-traction tires. These are the largest tires fitted to a heavy-duty pickup.

Additional features for the Super Duty Tremor include Trail Control and a rock-crawl mode. There’s 10.4 inches of ground clearance, 33 inches of water fording, and the best approach and departure angles ever offered by a Super Duty.

9. There’s an extensive list of standard and available safety.

Safety includes Ford Co-Pilot360 technology with available automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring including trailer coverage, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and a forward-collision warning, 180/360-degree camera views, and a lane-departure warning even on the base XL trim.

As you move up through the trim range, many of these features become standard and the number of available options increases. These options include adaptive cruise control and adaptive steering, making the suite of safety features offered in the Ford Super Duty F-350 quite comprehensive.

Although focused on work, the Ford Super Duty F-350 accommodates passengers with Sync 3 standard on all but the base trim, which offers it only as an option. Base systems feature a four-speaker or six-speaker audio system depending on the cab, while top trims get a 10-speaker B&O Play premium audio system.

There’s available navigation with an 8-inch color touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and FordPass Connect with 4G Wi-Fi connectivity. The Ford Super Duty F-350 offers a comprehensive and easy-to-use infotainment system that helps keep you and your passengers connected throughout a busy workday.
